Upon seeing the first trailer for The Informant! I was skeptical to say the least. It was obviously going to be a unique film starring Jason Bourne, a.k.a. Matt Damon, as a character who looked more like Milton from Office Space than the action heroes Damon has been more accustomed to as of late. After finally seeing The Informant! I have to admit that it was a blast to watch! It is a funny, quirky, roller coaster of a movie with superb acting and a story line that is crazy enough to only have been based on an actual event.
The Informant! is based on a book by Kurt Eichenwald that chronicles the true story of the price fixing of lysine products in the 1990’s. The story is focused around one particular executive for Archer Daniels Midland named Mark Whitacre. While that plot sounds like the film would be about as fun as a route canal, the activities of Whitacre become very irregular and confusing. As the story unfolds we find that Whitacre is very different from who is seen as at the beginning of the film. Not wanting to spoil the fun suprises and twists and turn of this film for you, that is all of the plot that I will discuss.
Another aspect of the film that was superb, besides the acting, was the overall look and feel of it. The film begins in 1992 and everything from the set design and clothing to the hair styles of the movie are executed perfectly.
